I'm inspired by opportunity and motivated by adversity."

Our Founder & Advisor

Karen founded ScienTec in 2002, at the age of 31. Fuelled by a strong interest in business start-ups and eight years of sales and management experience, she decided that it was time to follow her passion.  With only SGD10,000 working capital initially, she grew it into a multi-award winning, highly profitable business valued at SGD10 million upon exit.

An incredible journey...

Karen’s pioneering efforts and success in recruiting for the Life Sciences industry received great recognition.  She supported the government, foreign investors, MNCs, and start-ups, during the infant stage of the Life Sciences industry in Singapore, bringing in global talents to fill the critical talent gaps.

She also gave talks on topics relating to recruitment for the Life Sciences and Technology industries in Singapore and at the same time creating industry networking events.  Numerous of her industry-thought leadership articles and interviews were published in leading newspapers and magazines, including Business Times, Straits Times, Today, HR Magazine, HRM Magazine, Human Capital, BioSpectrum, and Recruitment International Digital Magazine.

Karen was recognised as an outstanding young entrepreneur in the Shell LiveWIRE 2005 Young Business Start-up competition as a merit winner.

Since then, ScienTec has garnered over 20 prestigious industry awards, all of which were attained despite fierce competition from leading international recruitment firms.

Over the years, ScienTec has expanded its practices from Life Sciences to various industries. It has over 120 international clients, numerous success stories and more than 600 client testimonials - a strong testament to its high standards of service delivery.

Under Karen’s leadership, ScienTec achieved remarkable year-on-year annual growth revenue.  For a boutique recruitment business, ScienTec has differentiated itself from the competition, and achieved above industry net profit margins, with track record of outstanding testimonials on both clients and candidates experience, and an engaged workforce.

ScienTec’s success attracted Will Group Inc. Investment, a company listed on the first section of Tokyo Stock Exchange. As of 2017, ScienTec became a wholly owned subsidiary of Will Group.

Karen now serves as a consultant to the board of ScienTec Consulting and Will Group, Inc.

When the company's values are aligned with the employees', you get a committed and motivated workforce."
